NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL 2006 This bank holiday weekend saw another successful Notting Hill Carnival enjoyed by crowds of up to a million. This is no mean achievement for an event that has its roots in an indoor gathering organized in 1959 as a counter to the racial tensions of 1950s Briton. This early event proved popular and was followed by others, by 1965 the fixture had moved to the now familiar August bank holiday and in 1976 it moved to Notting Hill where it gained an Afro-Caribbean flavour with an attendance of 150,000. The Notting Hill Carnival now attracts up to 1.5 Million people and is estimated to contribute 90 Million to the local and British economy. Roll on Notting Hill Carnival 2007..
